  After in-depth research and demonstration, State Grid Corporation decided to start ±1100 kV UHV DC operation. On January 26th, the company held a mobilization meeting in Beijing to fully deploy and mobilize the efforts to promote ±1100 kV UHV DC.
  The meeting proposed that we should basically complete the key technology research in one and a half years, determine the main technical solutions of the project; break through the key equipment technical problems within two years, complete the model prototype development; build the ±1100 kV UHV DC demonstration project within 5 years.

  As China's energy strategy moves westward, the country's development of energy resources in western regions such as Xinjiang and Tibet will further increase. These large energy bases are more than 2,400 kilometers away from the central and eastern load centers, and there is an urgent need to develop higher voltage direct current transmission technologies with higher voltage levels.
  In 2009, State Grid Corporation fully launched the research on key technologies of UHV DC transmission technology of ±1000 kV and above. In 2010, the company organized relevant scientific research, design units and equipment manufacturers to conduct in-depth research and demonstration on UHV DC transmission technology of ±1000 kV and above, completed the concept design, and proposed a voltage level recommendation. On December 17, the company's party group held a special meeting to study and determine the voltage level of ±1100 kV.
  Shu Yinbiao stressed that all relevant units should fully realize that the development of ±1100 kV UHV DC transmission technology has a good technical foundation, talent base and spiritual foundation; it is necessary to fully understand the difficulties in developing ±1100 kV UHV DC transmission technology, with emphasis. Do key technical research and key equipment development. He said that all units should scientifically and efficiently promote the work related to ±1100 kV UHV DC, set up a special organization as soon as possible according to the meeting requirements, implement responsibility, ensure resource input, and go all out to carry out work.
